[ Alec’s life is far from normal. His first reaction to the new place is that he’s been transported to a demon dimension. The way his life has been going, he wouldn’t be surprised. His hand hovers the hilt of a seraph blade and as he stares down the video with bright blue eyes.]

I don’t know who brought me here. If your sole intention was to kill me, come and find me.

[He was a Shadowhunter, he would rather die in battle than be hunted down like an animal.]

Otherwise, can someone explain why we have been kidnapped? What do they need us for?

[Another new arrival? It's nearing the point now where he's almost not surprised to find an unfamiliar face confused by the new surroundings, though it doesn't stop him from offering an apologetic look.]

I'm afraid no one knows the reason for our capture. ...It doesn't appear to be in order to kill us though, if that's any consolation. [He smiles weakly, but his brow remains tugged with concern as his eyes study what he can see of the new face, just checking to make sure he hasn't arrived harmed.] It seems, for the time being, that they simply want to...observe us.

[Alec is dissatisfied with the answer, he likes to deal in definites. However, the guy does appear genuinely deflated that he doesn't have anymore information.]

My name is Alec. Do you know who they are?

Though the circumstances are rather unfortunate, it's nice to meet you, Alec. I'm Samandriel.

[Another friendly smile is offered, though it's small. It's tough to manage a full one when greeting someone to a place with little to no possibility of escape, after all. Of course, the expression is then quick to fall back into something apologetic as he goes on to give the information he has on the captors. Which is none.]

...Unfortunately no, I don't know who they are. I don't believe anyone does-- I've not been here long myself, but even those who have been here the longest... don't sound as though they've even seen our captors. From what I've heard, at least. You may do better to ask around, but... I don't believe anyone knows anything about them.

[Alec's blue eyes widen at the name.]

That is the name of an angel in my world.

[And he had wielded a seraph blade in the name of Samandriel before. It is an odd moment.]

[Alec's lips quirk up for a moment as he contains a laugh.]

I am not going to have children.

I know nothing about childbirth.

[Alec is hopeless at comebacks.]

The only truth I have been told is that no one knows what is going on.

[ Magnus doesn't think for a second about staying away. He knows they parted on very bad, very hurtful terms and his heart clenches in response to those blue eyes flickering over the network. But he's had a day or two of this place, and already he feels his power seep from his skin like a dying light. So he can't not go to him, wouldn't want to no matter how upset he is with him.

Because Alec is a Shadowhunter and already clearly asking for trouble and he just can't. ] Stay right where you are. Try not to kill anybody. I'm on my way.

[Magnus. Something tightens in Alec's throat and it makes it hard for him to form words. This reaction was why he hadn't been able to bring himself to speak to Magnus when he called him. It hurt too much.]

Magnus.

[One word. It was a start. There is raw pain in his eyes.]

What are you doing here? Did someone kidnap you too?

[freewheeling]

You could say that.

[ He's moving, that much is clear. The view from his device is of Magnus' worried gaze and the blur of the house as he moves through it. ] Where are you? What can you see?

[Alec jerks his gaze away from Magnus and spins a slow circle.]

I am down at the docks.

[He looks back at the image of Magnus.]


I didn't think anything worried you this much.

Most people would hope not to die.

Would you rather be tortured and then killed by our captors?

[intelligently]

No, but would it matter either way what I wanted?

It might, you could talk yourself into a quick death.

[Mundanes, did they ever think outside of the box?]

As far as any of us can tell, they don't want us dead. Not all at once, anyway. We're assuming it's an experiment of some sort. [The voice that answers has a distinct accent, a mishmash of British, American, and French.]

If you've shown up uninjured, you're a step ahead of some of the most recent arrivals.

[The mishmash of accents put him in mind of a warlock, who Alec is trying very hard not to think about.]

Have they killed people already?

Hard to say, really. I know one poor girl turned up in two different places one day but was up and talking again a day or two later. People die and come back here, on occasion. At least one I know of has died and not returned, but it wasn't our captors that killed him.

[An angry young man mutters an audio response.]

Do you really think they've been generous enough to tell us that? All we know is that they can take people from all worlds and times and that they're strong enough to hold gods.

I have met a few who like to brag about their end game.

[Alec raises an eyebrow at that.]/small>

Do the captors have magic?

Magic, technology I don't know about, or both. They've put a barrier across the sky so no one can fly and they've warped the edges of where we can run to, so the distances are wrong. That sword of yours isn't going to be of any use against them.
