[The breeze pushes her heavy hair behind her. She takes a deep breath and then puts a smile on for the camera. It's tentative, but there.]

I owe apologies. Quite a few of them. Riley, Charlie, St. Raphael, Derek....

[She pauses.]

Dilandau.

I had some personal trouble recently and lashed out at those that didn't deserve it. I apologize for not being able to keep my temper and for not explaining anything.

[Another pause.]

And for still not explaining anything.

I just... Please accept my apology. For those that don't wish to, [Dilandau] I understand.

I'm going to be staying at the lighthouse a bit, I think. I need the perspective and if something happens again, there won't be anyone to take the brunt of it. Except some seagulls, but they're usually pretty forgiving.

I apologized, because I was in the wrong. Nowhere did I promise to be a good little anything, Mr. Dilandau.

[Because you don't have to swear to cut someone down.]

And, I was just pointing out who you were equating the word "monster" to.

Apology implies that you'll be changing your behaviour. Or were you just apologising so you'll look good in everyone else's eyes?

I apologized for a past action that I will try not to repeat. The circumstances are... extenuating, but it shouldn't happen again, and there are plans in place should it become necessary.

Or did you not understand that?

I understand you're not a bit contrite. Keep your apologies if this is how you make them.

[bostonhowler]

I've apologized. If you disbelieve me contrite, you're mistaken. I've Confessed, and part of my penance is apologizing so publicly. There are plans in place to stop me should this happen again - which it shouldn't.

[She sighs and shoves hair out of her face.]

I can't convince you of it, that's fine. But I am sorry for the further pain I caused you when you were already injured.

[He stares at her for a moment, assessing her sincerity. If she'd been one of his men he'd have slapped her to make sure the apology set, but that's not a good idea with monsters]

Fine. But don't come near my window in the future. I don't care why you want to see me, just go to the door and knock.

[bostonhowler]

I can agree with that. As I said, I'm staying in the lighthouse, so it will be easy for you to avoid me.

[burnburnburn]

In this little cage? I'd be lucky if I could go three days without seeing everyone who lived here.

Well, I promise to stay out of your way if I can, how about that? Would that help?

Just stay out of my window and out of my face and I'll be satisfied.

You seemed to have no problem with my face before.

[She's already promised to stay out of his window, twice. She's not doing it again.]

[He bares his teeth]

Only when it's on fire. Should I make you more likeable?

You'd have to catch me first.

[Now this is fun. It's like needling the boys of the pack.]

[He's finding it less amusing]

Or I could just pile some brushwood round the lighthouse.

[She's going to giggle soon.]

That would only guarantee the lighthouse burning down. And then I would have to move back to town, wouldn't I?

Don't underestimate my hunting skills, woman. If I wanted to catch you I'd find a way how.

Well, pigs are actually well renowned for their hunting abilities. It's why they're used to hunt truffles.

Don't be jealous, Monster, that I don't have to hide what i am.

You only don't have to hide, because you're the dominant species on the planet, Bacterium, and won't be killed on sight for simply living.

[He spits out a laugh]

What? Have you been to Gaia? Don't assume the rules of your demon world apply to my home.

I'm not. It's a basic science principle: Bacteria are usually the dominant species on any planet.

[A bright smile.]

[More of a tooth baring than a smile]

I feel sorry for you for existing on such a nasty little world.

[He doesn't. She deserves to stay hunted and not exist on glorious Gaia]

There's hundreds of tribes on Gaia other than humankind and the only ones who hide among us are the ones who try to eat us.

[bostonhowler]

So it's you who judge me by your standards. Now I see.

[She brushes her hair back again.]

I have no desire to eat long pig, and never have.

My standards are obviously better than yours.

And I'd believe you more if you didn't keep referring to us as 'long pigs'.
