Day 90; Video 003

[bostonhowler]

[The breeze pushes her heavy hair behind her. She takes a deep breath and then puts a smile on for the camera. It's tentative, but there.]

I owe apologies. Quite a few of them. Riley, Charlie, St. Raphael, Derek....

[She pauses.]

Dilandau.

I had some personal trouble recently and lashed out at those that didn't deserve it. I apologize for not being able to keep my temper and for not explaining anything.

[Another pause.]

And for still not explaining anything.

I just... Please accept my apology. For those that don't wish to, [Dilandau] I understand.

I'm going to be staying at the lighthouse a bit, I think. I need the perspective and if something happens again, there won't be anyone to take the brunt of it. Except some seagulls, but they're usually pretty forgiving.

[Good, she's seen the light and has understood that Dilandau was, is and always will be in the right. He'll be magnanimous and not demand a longer apology, for she had the sense to make it public]

I hope you don't expect that toy of yours back.

I'd better pay attention to who you start to hang round with, in that case. It'll be a quick way to find monsters.

I'm sure Charlie and St. Raphael will find your calling them monsters endearing. And then, of course, there's others around, who I'm sure would be ecstatic to hear your opinions.

Is this how it goes? You'll apologise and promise to be a good little woman and just use someone else to threaten me instead?

I apologized, because I was in the wrong. Nowhere did I promise to be a good little anything, Mr. Dilandau.

[Because you don't have to swear to cut someone down.]

And, I was just pointing out who you were equating the word "monster" to.

Apology implies that you'll be changing your behaviour. Or were you just apologising so you'll look good in everyone else's eyes?

I apologized for a past action that I will try not to repeat. The circumstances are... extenuating, but it shouldn't happen again, and there are plans in place should it become necessary.

Or did you not understand that?

I understand you're not a bit contrite. Keep your apologies if this is how you make them.

I've apologized. If you disbelieve me contrite, you're mistaken. I've Confessed, and part of my penance is apologizing so publicly. There are plans in place to stop me should this happen again - which it shouldn't.

[She sighs and shoves hair out of her face.]

I can't convince you of it, that's fine. But I am sorry for the further pain I caused you when you were already injured.

[She sounds tired. Since people have been showing up in her nightmares, she refuses to sleep. And it shows.]

No harm, no foul.

You're not sleeping, are you?

[She sleeps okay. There's nothing in her dreams that would bother her for people to learn.]

No. I'm not. I don't like people learning about me without my permission but it seems to be happening regardless of my desires.

Prayer helps? I mean it does for me. There's meditations to guide the mind and things like that, but it's the same principle really.

[She's actually shocked and a little hurt by that.]

My faith is mine, Charlie. Everyone has to find their own way, no matter who or what they believe in. I will always respect yours and ask only that you return the favor.

[Now she's worried. Is she pushy with it? She doesn't mean to be! It's just... part of who and what she is.]

[He stares at her for a moment, assessing her sincerity. If she'd been one of his men he'd have slapped her to make sure the apology set, but that's not a good idea with monsters]

Fine. But don't come near my window in the future. I don't care why you want to see me, just go to the door and knock.

[bostonhowler]

I can agree with that. As I said, I'm staying in the lighthouse, so it will be easy for you to avoid me.

[She relaxes. She knows sometimes, she can be.]

If I ever am, don't be afraid to tell me to shut up. I think the meditation would help, if you wanted to try it? It's just an exercise is telling the brain where you want it to go.

[She appears on the screen. She's not returning the smile, but she's not frowning or looking angry. More like she's trying not to show how she feels.]

Is it over?

[Because Riley didn't want to have to worry about having to tip toe around the people she lived around as well as the creatures in the woods.]

[Brigid's face heats. Riley has no reason to forgive her.]

Yes, it's over. I... can explain it to you, if you'd like. Somewhere neutral?

[There's a flicker of curiosity in her eyes before she covers it.]

No tricks? No flipping out?

[Because Riley was willing to listen, but she wasn't willing to walk into any sort of trap or excuse to have another fight.]

No. Nothing at all, just me talking and keeping my hands to myself.

[She's really sorry.]

[Riley takes a minute to think about it, but she'd have to be blind not to see how Brigid looks genuinely remorseful.]
