Day 90; Video 003

[The breeze pushes her heavy hair behind her. She takes a deep breath and then puts a smile on for the camera. It's tentative, but there.]

I owe apologies. Quite a few of them. Riley, Charlie, St. Raphael, Derek....

[She pauses.]

Dilandau.

I had some personal trouble recently and lashed out at those that didn't deserve it. I apologize for not being able to keep my temper and for not explaining anything.

[Another pause.]

And for still not explaining anything.

I just... Please accept my apology. For those that don't wish to, [Dilandau] I understand.

I'm going to be staying at the lighthouse a bit, I think. I need the perspective and if something happens again, there won't be anyone to take the brunt of it. Except some seagulls, but they're usually pretty forgiving.

There's almost always two or three. The year I graduated there were five. So, yeah. We're a huge family.

[She shrugs.]

How do you even keep track of everyone?

[She's guessing it's comparable to how she and her mom kept track of everyone who came into the roadhouse more than once, but still.]

[Brigid laughs.]

We're Boston Irish Catholic. Well, most of us. We know how to take care of everyone and keep track. You get used to it.

Used to it or not, sounds like a lot of work.

So I'm guessing you have a bunch of brothers and sisters, too?

Well, it was. Babysitting was always an adventure.

[Brigid shakes her head.]

No. I'm an only child.

Me, too.

[She smiles a little, sympathetic.]

Except without all the cousins and other family to keep me company, I guess. Being an only child can get pretty lonely otherwise.

I don't know what I'd do without the family. When my mother passed, I stayed with my aunt and uncle for eighteen months, until Da could come home permanently. Then, when he died in the line of duty, I moved in with them again.

After that I appreciated being an only child.

[She grins.]

[Jo's first instinct is to grin back, but she can't quite manage it -- not when she hears about her parents.]

I'm sorry to hear that. I lost my dad, too.

[And her mother, technically, though Kore had been uncommonly kind in letting them be reunited so soon after their deaths.]

[Brigid blinks. She's so used to her losses that she forgets other people might not be as well adjusted as she is.]

Oh. I'm sorry, Jo.

It was a long time ago. I was still in pigtails, but--

[She smiles a little, sympathetic.]

I remember how hard it was. It's not easy to lose family. It's not easy to lose anyone.

No it isn't. I haven't lost many, but it always hurts.

[It helps having a huge family around. Then, you're not alone.]

It changes you, doesn't it? Makes you have to grow up real fast, sometimes.

[She pauses for a moment, considering.]

How old were you...? If you don't mind my asking.

It changes the world.

[It's soft, the plea of a child. She misses her Da, especially.]

I was six when Mom died. Car accident.

[Guilt. So much guilt.]

Da died a couple years ago, when I was in high school.

... I was eight when I lost my dad. He had an accident, too.

[She won't go so far as to say what kind, but clearly, she sympathizes.]

I'm sorry. Nobody should have to go through that at all. [Death happens to everyone, but violent death? That's a little different. More traumatic.] Let alone twice.

Mom was a shock. Drunk driver. By the time I woke up, she was gone.

[She'd been six. Any death is a shock.]

Da... He was a cop. Not exactly expected, but he died in the line of duty.

Your Mom is still alive?

... yeah. Sort of.

[Their situation is pretty singular. Not easy to explain, but she'll try.]

She's here, too, but the truth of it is -- back home? We were both on our way out. We just ended up here instead.

The angels, maybe?

[The faith is strong with this one.]

Maybe.

[Less faith, in Jo's case, and more precedent, but she's going to take that as literally as possible.]

Castiel didn't seem to know anything about it, though. Raphael, either.

I haven't met St. Castiel.

[She needs to double check her angel lore, sometime. She really does.]

St. Raphael seems to be as trapped as the rest of us. That's... discomfiting.

They're not the only angels here, either. The fact that they're prisoners, too...

[She sighs, shaking her head.]

Whoever or whatever's holding us is damn powerful, that's for sure.

I've really only spoken to St. Raphael and St. Balthazar. And St. Lucifer when he was here.

[She sighs.]

That's the only conclusion that can be met. Hopefully, we can find a way home.

St. Lucifer...

[She bites back a bitter laugh, shaking her head.]

Sounds weird, referring to him that way.

[She pauses for a moment, wondering how much else to say.]

I'm not so sure I want to go home. But I can't blame other people for wanting it. It's only natural.

Everyone says that. But... we call his brothers Saints, no reason he can't be as well.

[Brigid has opinions.]

My... family is waiting. I hope they haven't forgotten me.

But isn't a saint what you call someone who's revered by the church? Someone people look up to?

[Decidedly not Satan? Jo has opinions, too.]

Some Saints are martyrs, though. Some of them simply died for their beliefs. That doesn’t seem something to be revered for. At least for me. Yes, they stood by their faith until they died, but sometimes the easy way is to die, rather than to fight. St. Lucifer is still an Archangel of God, he’s still a sword and soldier of God. That deserves respect.

[Lucifer isn’t Satan. Don’t get her started on that.]
