[ Here's a face that may not be familiar to many of those who are new. He looks weary, but that's mostly just the way his face looks. He also maybe looks just the slightest bit irritated, in the way that a man trying his hardest to look patient always does. ]

It has come to my attention that not many of you know who I am. I'd like to properly introduce myself to the cape at large, for all those who are newcomers here.

My name is Edgar Stane, and I have taken up a leadership position here in the cape. I admit that I have been quiet these past few weeks, and for that I would like to apologize. I mean to have a more noticeable presence in the near future. That said and done, I have a few things that I'd like to say to you all.

Our current situation with food has been in dire straits for a while now. Since the formation of the committees, we've been doing marginally better in food storage, but it is an ongoing process. I have been working with the leaders of the committees in charge of food production to make sure that everybody gets their fair share of food. If you do not feel as though you are getting an equal share, please do come talk to me. I will do my best to resolve any problem brought to me.

Secondly, I've found what appears to be... some sort of documentation. What I've managed to make out could be important information regarding how we've all come to be here, and why we can't leave. If you are interested, again, come talk to me in person. I've taken residence in the Town Hall.

[ He gives a huge sigh. ] And lastly, I've heard rumors of people in our community who have deemed it appropriate to keep the wild animals from the forest as pets. I'd like to take this moment to remind you all what happened the last time those of our numbers attempted this, and ask you to remember the unfortunate and awful deaths that resulted from it. These are and always will be wild animals, and I urge you all to keep that in mind.

You say 'unfortunate and awful deaths' like it's a bad thing. A few people being torn to shreds by the wildlife would lessen the strain on the foodload. And we could make sure it was the annoying ones who got eaten first.

I hadn't planned on it. [ He glances down at the papers. ] They seem to be notes on the alternate dimensions that we have all been brought in from. I'd prefer to speak about it face to face.

[ Because come on, this is the twenty-first century. If they're still in hard copy that's just asking for trouble. ]

[ A pause. ] How would you have me do it? A public reading could easily be erased from the network, as could a video.

[ Here comes a girl into the Town Hall, craning her neck to look towards the ceiling and then back down again to the dark little corners near the floor, before she walks up to Edgar. ]

[ He offers her a smile, looking up at her from behind his desk. ] Of course. [ And he offers her the folder. Inside, she'll find one loose paper. ]

Where did you find this documentation? Or if you'd like to discuss even that in person, I can be there whenever is most convenient for you.

[ He smiles right back, in that sort of world-weary way. ] I'd prefer to discuss it in person, if you wouldn't mind. Not only is it a personal preference, but it is much easier to talk without being recorded.

Is there a particular reason you can't mention that information in those documents right now? [She is expecting it is something more suited to being said in person. It isn't something she's necessarily looking forward to hearing.]

None other than personal preference. I have no way of knowing that it's safe to speak of anything over the communicators. Word of mouth has always been more my style.

[ Dean doesn't even bother replying. He just shows up where he knows Stane hangs out. He's had to report in to him as the leader of a couple teams, but that doesn't mean he's any less suspicious of him. Anyone who claims power like this has Dean on edge a bit. ]

[ Oh hey there, Dean. Edgar isn't exactly thrilled to see Dean either, but he's polite and calm-mannered as usual. ]

Hello, Dean. [ He pushes himself away from the desk, picking up the piece of paper and handing it to the other. ] I'd hoped you would stop by.

And what happens when there's nothing left to hunt and the food runs out? What if the crops fail? What then?

We'll have to resort to cannibalism, I suppose. [ That's... a joke. Though it's a little flat. ]

And what will your noticeable presence do? [ It's all good him talking about helping with the food, because that is good, but what else? ]

Whatever is required. If I am needed somewhere, I will do my best to provide whatever assistance I can.

Pondering question:

There are some here who have advanced metabolisms, that don't follow baseline humans. How are you going to fit their needs and keep everything equal?

Secondly, is there an exchange or something we can set up? I mean, I'm totally willing to share my food, if someone else cooks. Pooling of resources as it were.

I would need more information on said metabolisms. I'm afraid I don't have much experience with those who are not human. Or rather, advanced humans, I suppose. Would you be one of those who would need different accommodations?

As for the exchange, I'm sure that something can be set up. If you'd like, I can organize a food drive of sorts. Or, if that doesn't suit your needs, there is always the network to trade resources over. However you'd prefer.

[ There's silence for a long moment, and then Edgar replies, frowning. ]

I... hm. [ A pause. ] I seem to remember a young woman keeping one of the tigers as a pet, and being found dead because of it. You have no recollection of that? I can't for the life of me remember her name.

No, I did not. I'm not aware of any previous leader. If there was one, they did not make themselves known to me. As for the information, I came across it while walking. I doubt that I was meant to find it.

[He's a little suspicious, but Stane seems to be working for the good of them all, so there are some points in his direction, at least.]

...May I ask where you found this documentation you mentioned? I expect that if it has anything at all to do with how we all got here, it couldn't have simply been left for you to find on purpose.

It was decided a long time ago. Forgive me, I should have been more apparent from the start.

I found it outside, near the Town Hall. It was simply on the ground. I doubt that I was meant to find it.

[ FTR Erik's typist is thoroughly, incredibly sad that he can't make any jokes about the video game like scenario which is finding important papers on the ground. As it is, he, like so many others, is far too busy for like, pleasantries or warning, and so just stalks long-leggedly to the town hall.

He knocks briskly on the doorframe of Stane's office...type thing, if only to announce his presence. Ordinarily he'd be incredibly wary of this set-up, but he can respect not feeding this kind of information through a network that is almost certainly monitored--that and the strange inclination he feels toward the trustworthiness of the man. It's a little odd, when he hasn't trusted a human since he fond out he wasn't one, but the twinge of oddity goes ignored and unquestioned, for the moment. ]

[ The salutation hews dry, not particularly sarcastic; as far as Erik is concerned it must be a thankless task. ]
