[ There's only so much exploration a man can do before he either gets eaten by a mechanical bear, or uses up one of his own precious bullets by shooting himself. So when the feed starts he seems agitated, a poker chip being flipped up into the air by his free hand and then caught again. ]

So I've learnt a lot since I first arrived. I know we have clubs and town halls and all manner of ... ne'er do well people lurking on the horizon. I've seen wolves and heard about the sea monster and watched the lot of you panic like headless chickens the minute your beauty sleep was invaded. I've gathered enough information for a bloody lonely planet guide and yet -.

[ The poker chip goes into the air again, the gold edges catching on the evening light from the window behind him. ] And yet I haven't the faintest clue what you do for fun. I've been here twelve days - almost a fortnight - and the opportunity to crack a smile is so rare I feel we all require some form of narcotic. [ If Arthur were here he'd fit right in. Eames likes to imagine that by now he'd be wearing a bear skin suit and ordering him around. Perhaps he shouldn't think about Arthur and sumptuous fur, actually. That way danger lies. ]

Please tell me there's something you're all hiding. Even if it is narcotics.

I know it's hard keeping secrets when it's so clear to you, and when it's not... as important as lots of other secrets that people have, but they still might not want you showing up telling everyone they're a pair of gangsters.

[ He wants to get that point across, but he's not mad at River: just worried there will be tension between her and Meyer and Charlie. He doesn't want that, when he considers the two of them to be friends. ]

But they are obvious and their replies are obvious.

[ She's so petulant Ned can't help but smile, remembering how irritated he'd been at himself for not realizing on his own ]

They are, a bit, aren't they?

[ No, what is he doing, he's not supposed to be agreeing with her! ] I don't think they can help it. That's just the way they are. But that doesn't mean it's OK to barge in and blow their cover before they do it themselves.

Oh, it's all right love. I pretty much figured that all by myself. [ He gives her a friendly smile, flicking the poker chip back up. ]

Their accents pretty much gave them away, anyone with even an ounce of historical knowledge and the opportunity to witness one of them in a bar would know who and what they are.

[ Seriously, if Mal had met River he thinks the world would have fallen in days. ]

I can't say I've ever met anyone from Beverly Hills, but I should think a fair amount of people would be inclined to take you seriously about something like that.
