003 | Chuck Shurley | Day 93

[ Good evening, Kore! Amidst all of the new arrivals that have been showing up is a familiar face. Or, well, it would be a familiar face if he hadn't been missing for about three weeks.

Chuck Shurley is standing on the edge of town, looking completely baffled and confused. Like he'd just found himself there without knowing how or why, and so he just... stopped walking. He's tired and he's sore and honestly, he doesn't feel all that great. All he wants to do is crawl into bed and sleep for a few days. He rubs his forehead and he blinks down at the communicator at his wrist for a few seconds. ]

So I, uh... I think I was just kidnapped? By... the scientists?

[ And if he sounds unsure, it's only because he is. It's like trying to remember a dream he had years ago - everything's all fuzzy. ]

Thanks. I, uh. Just think I need a drink and some sleep, really.

[Fortescue chuckles softly.]

Few things can't be solved by that combination.

It hasn't wronged me this far, you know?

I would hope not. They're one of the few things we have in this place.

[ He doesn't want to say "Thank God for that", because he's really not that vein, but. That's what he's thinking, that's what his face says. ]

I'm not sure I'd be able to cope with, uh... [ He gestures around. All of Kore, he means. ] ...this, otherwise.

Without sleeping and drinking? [Fortescue gives him a cagey sort of smile, and nods.] I'm right there with you.

[She's supposed to be home, fighting in the war and doing her job like she agreed. Protecting and keeping her little sister safe, like she promised, in any way that she can. Being captured has thrown a wrench into that.]

I just hope we get more food drops in the future.

[ He rubs at his forehead. ] Me too.

I mean, they can't expect us to starve, can they?

[ He's really hoping the answer to that is no. Because who knows what the scientists could be thinking? They're certainly torturing them. And it's depressing when starvation is actually a real consequence of being trapped here. ]

It would be a very short and fruitless experiment, in my mind, if that was their plan. [She shrugs a little. Who can say?] But we should be all right, I think. There's enough food to get by.

Yeah, no, I think we're still fine for now.

[ For now. He doesn't want to be pessimistic, but... it's kind of hard not to. ]

If it gets too much worse, we'll just have to have velociraptor steak.

[It's a joke (well, kind of) and she smiles in a teasing way.]

[ He takes it as a joke, (Because how would they even kill the dinosaur? Can you actually eat dinosaur?) and he gives a grin. ]

It'd probably taste like chicken.

Doesn't sound bad. Unless you don't like chicken, of course.

[Giant chicken steak? It's something to keep in mind.]

[ It'd be enough to feed the whole city for a while. ]

Who doesn't like chicken?

There must be someone. After all, some people don't like chocolate.

[Not that she adores it, but chocolate could be very nice. Still, there were those who thought it was awful.]

Yeah, that's a good point.

[ He doesn't adore chocolate either, but he still likes it. It is chocolate, after all. ]

Hopefully no one hates fish or deer, or this place is about to become very uncomfortable for them.

Yeah, but... I mean, food is food, right?

[ Unless you were allergic, you kind of had to make do. Especially with the food shortage and all. ]

That doesn't mean they won't complain, love.

[People can complain about anything.]

But, at least there'd be an easy rebuttal.

Yeah, I guess.

[ Chuck is trying to be more optimistic. After all, he lived through the actual Biblical Apocalypse and he didn't die. I mean, surely there wasn't anything more uplifting than that, right? ]

But I mean, we can't really do anything about it. Not until the scientists decide otherwise.

You're right. There isn't much we can do. [She quirks a somewhat tired smile at the thought.] Although you can still have a drink and get some sleep, so I recommend you start with that.

Yeah.

[ And gosh if that doesn't just sound like the best idea at the moment. ]

I think I will.

[Fortescue chuckles.]

[ And with one hint of a last smile, Chuck ends the feed. ]
