Martha's 6th - Open Voice/Action - Day 110

Voice

Is everyone OK. Clinic made it through OK. If you need a doctor, let me know where you are. I'll be there as soon as I possibly can. Also, be careful of aftershocks.

Action

[Martha had been in the clinic when the earthquake came. Once she realized what actually was happening, she braced herself under a door frame until the shocks were over.]

[Once they were over, she put out the message about help and packed her medkit. She began making her way through the town, looking for those she could help.]

Our house... um, thirteen, seems fine enough. Dust everywhere, and a few things knocked over, but it made it.

I'm on my way. Any injuries?

Oh, no, honey, don't waste your time on me. I'm perfectly fine. Just wanted to check in, I guess. Something to cross off your list, not add to it.

[She seems reluctant and is quiet for a beat before continuing.] Mm, did you need help?

At the moment?

I'm OK. Let people know they can go to the clinic if they need help. Call me if you find anyone who does need help.

I'm Martha by the way.

[Seems important to give the woman her name.]

Don't be surprised if I don't answer right away. I'm helping whomever I can.

[She sounds a little rattled, but otherwise alright.]

[Meja's doing the same thing, as well as surveying the structure of buildings that did make it through. More or less, in a few cases. She's pushing a tumbled beam to lean against a wall, rather than being a hazard, when she notices Martha. Waving, she brushes her hands together and makes her way over.]

Ja. I wasn't near anything that could topple. Well, except the gazebo, but it seems to be doing fine.

[She shakes her head a little.]

Odd place for an earthquake that strong.

What's more odd is how localized it is. Earthquakes this strong should have rocked the whole island. But only a few buildings seem seriously damaged.

Have we found an epicenter yet?

It's likely there are limbs of trees that will still come down. Avoid the wooded areas, they are all ready being searched.

[Martha hurries over and walks in.]

Hello? It's Dr. Jones.

[Ellen walks out of the back, still holding the now very red towel over her arm. There's a lump in it, because she put a second towel under it.

She settles at an uprighted table.]

Glass fell off a shelf, shattered and I took a chunk to the arm. Piece is out, and not bleeding any more, but it needs stitches.

[She's got a bottle in her other hand. Nope, she needs hunter's helper.]

[Martha stands across from her and moves to take the towel away so she can examine the wound. She sees the bottle but doesn't comment. The wound is not bleeding anymore as Ellen says, but the blood is gummed up. It'll probably start bleeding again.]

I need to clean it. It's going to sting.

Can you handle stitches without an anesthetic?

I cut my hand on some broken plates and glass, but I'm fine.

I'm okay, and I'm no doctor but if you need an extra pair of hands to help with medical assistance, let me know?

Most people seem to be all right. Thank you though. I'll let you know if I need an assistant.

Thank goodness for that, at least.

When it's all over, I'm willing to give first aid lessons and possibly higher medical training if you'd like.
