006/Audio/Late Day 79

I've had a thought, Kore--because I do that, occasionally, when I'm not too busy drinking. We've had a lot of new arrivals turn up injured lately, and also a number of re-arrivals with nasty wounds. What about a few of us volunteering as a quick-response group for these occasions? A welcoming committee for the bruised and bleeding, as it were.

I don't know whether the infirmary is equipped for overnight stays, so someone will have to inform me. I'm afraid to go look. If not, maybe some sort of temporary shelter would be appropriate, as well.

...And on a completely unrelated note, could the person who's been painting murals of birds around town pretty please come forward? I want to shake your hand.

Worst comes to worst, could always designate a house for that kinda stuff, couple'a people who've got the space to lend out some rooms, ya know?

I'm told it's attached to the pharmacy? But I don't get sick, so I haven't been.

And, yes, that was my thought, exactly. I think my house is out of space, but I'd be willing to help fix up someone's attic or something. Or an empty building, if there are any.

Don't think there's gonna be any space that ain't occupied. Could always kick a couple'a people out but they ain't gonna be so sweet on that idea either.

I'm not, though. Not really. What the hell do I know about medical operations? I just want a couple people to be willing to step up in case of an emergency. More like triage.

So tell me about the infirmary, and I'll bring you patients, if any come around.

I don't work in the infirmary. I was rather patently told that my services would not be required. There's no bloody discipline around here. No cooperation.

If I catch it or someone brings it to my attention, yeah. Sure, why not? I've not exactly got my schedule filled to the brim or anything and there's no reason why I shouldn't help someone unless they give me a reason not to.

I didn't know we actually had something set up! I think that girl Elizabeth was going to try to get some medical supplies... from somewhere. You might want to make sure she knows, so they get to the right place.

I don't have any medical training, but I'd be happy to offer myself as an extra pair of hands if I can be useful.

I've never been there, but it's been mentioned to me at least twice.

Yes, I've spoken to Elizabeth, as well. She's quite helpful. [He finds it worrisome how helpful she is, actually. But that's not the problem at hand.]

Hunh. I guess I'm just still learning about the place. And... she is. She's very sweet. [Elizabeth seems younger than she is, to him, and brings out his fatherly instincts even though he's never been a father.]

Towns like this used to use the church or school when an infirmary was needed.

[ He's not offering to be at anyone's beak and call - but he'll offer information. ]

Given the schoolhouse is now a library and the church is small, the town hall might be a good idea.

[Balthazar doesn't want any one person to be at the town's beck and call, but particularly not any of the angels. Nails that stick out will get hammered down, and all that.]

Is there space at the town hall, do you think? I hadn't thought much about this before blabbing all over the network, I'm afraid.

So I'm told! As I said before, I haven't seen it myself, and I hope never to have cause to see it, but everyone I know has been coming up bloodied lately, so I thought I'd look into it.

I believe Donna and I are going to tackle taking a roster of the people in the Cape. Perhaps we should also see what buildings are, and aren't, being used?

I tend to agree with that, but if I keep it up I'm likely to run the supply low single-handedly, which is hardly fair.

That sounds like a very good idea. I dare say there will be a few people who don't want to stand up and be counted, but I expect you'll get most of us. There was a fellow here before doing something similar, but he's vanished. I don't know if the document he had is still around...

That's a rather splendid idea, Balthazar. [ Because he'd been deeply unhappy about Castiel's state, not knowing who to call or who to ask for help. To have a response team would be good. ]

You might also want to make it known that sometimes it isn't a conventional medic that people need. If you need to take a look at my notes on those of us with mutations or powers, feel free.

Thank you! I'm not sure how far it will go, but at least some people seem interested.

And...yes. I know there are times something more than conventional medicine will be needed. I'm not sure it's a good idea for me to look at your notes, though. Even if the people in them aren't individually identified, someone's bound to get nervous their secrets are being shared, aren't they?

What is, a triage group? I suppose for the people who drop in perfectly all right, it'll come across as ominous. But that might be fitting.
