Day 90; Video 003

[bostonhowler]

[The breeze pushes her heavy hair behind her. She takes a deep breath and then puts a smile on for the camera. It's tentative, but there.]

I owe apologies. Quite a few of them. Riley, Charlie, St. Raphael, Derek....

[She pauses.]

Dilandau.

I had some personal trouble recently and lashed out at those that didn't deserve it. I apologize for not being able to keep my temper and for not explaining anything.

[Another pause.]

And for still not explaining anything.

I just... Please accept my apology. For those that don't wish to, [Dilandau] I understand.

I'm going to be staying at the lighthouse a bit, I think. I need the perspective and if something happens again, there won't be anyone to take the brunt of it. Except some seagulls, but they're usually pretty forgiving.

[She's a little hesitant to bring up Balthazar again, but hey, Brigid mentioned him first.]

You know, you don't have to call him that. St. Balthazar.. He's not all stuffy like the other one. Just Balthazar works. Or Balthy.

[She was keeping Snowball to herself. That was her name for him.]

It's not stuffy to want to be called by your proper title. I enjoy St. Raphael's company.

[She fidgets with her sleeves and then shakes her head.]

He's St. Balthazar. Being part of the Host offers him a degree of respect that I won't breach. It would be like walking into school and calling a teacher by their first name. It's just not done.

[She could argue with that, but she stopped to take a minute and look at it from Brigid's perspective.]

I guess it's just different for me since I wasn't raised the way you were. No religion for my family, so I don't have the same view on them. Balthazar is just another non-human to me, albeit one I haven't seen before. But then, I've never seen a psychic, even though my brother has.

[This was the hard part, but if they were going to live in the same town, it was better to get it all out and done with here and now.]

I'm sorry if I... antagonized you. More than I should have. I'm just not used to that kind of aggression for what I didn't see as a reason. I mean, I see it now, but I didn't then. So... I'm sorry.

Most, even in my world, aren't raised with religion.

[She's been made fun of for her views, even if they don't perfectly align with the Church.

The apology surprises her and she blinks, looking at Riley.]

It wasn't your fault. There's no need to apologize. You didn't know and I wasn't, exactly, forthcoming about my issues. And we can agree to disagree about the angels?

I can do that. As long as you can deal with the fact that I'm close to Balthazar. Not like, that close or anything, but he's my friend. I care about him. He's not some omnipotent being to me, but I'll respect that it's different for you. Just... no freaking out on me because I smell like him or call him a nick name.

Deal?

I can handle that.

[She smiles a bit weakly. She doesn't want to deny anyone the comfort that they find in this place.]

And if it gets to that point again, I think I'll ask St. Raphael to just... knock me out or something. I don't think it will happen again, but better to be prepared.

I can probably be a bit less easier to ruffle if I know what's going on, so I can always point out if you're acting out of sorts or not.

[She tipped her head to the side, giving Brigid a considering look.]

That mean we have a truce? We're good?

[Brigid offers her hand, no claws, just blunt nails.]

I'd be glad to count you as a friend, if you don't mind?

[There was a half a second of hesitation as Riley thought it over, but her smile came quickly enough and she took Brigid's hand, giving it a firm shake.]

Good. I'd rather have a friend than an enemy. Especially one that gets me, you know? I mean, the whole... rawr thing.

[Brigid's smile expands and she lets go of some of the tension she'd been holding onto. It is nice to have someone who understands the pull of the moon around.]

I know what you mean. It makes me miss the pack so much more. I miss movie and pizza nights, the pack meetings... the family.

[Riley sighed softly.]

I miss pizza.

And my family. I haven't been away from them this long before.

[bostonhowler]

Pizza we can do. I think. I mean, we'll have to find yeast, and all that stuff, but I've made homemade pizzas before. It might have to wait until the gardens start producing.

[She thinks. It'll be a pain to make the sauce, but they can make big batches if the tomatoes produce.]

I would love a good pizza. If we can make a veggie one, I know Ned would probably like one as well.

[Riley, of course, didn't know much about what went into making a pizza other than flipping dough around and around. She'd wanted to try it, but she'd never gotten the chance.]

[Brigid bites her lip.]

I'd need recipes, and the like, but if we can get the ingredients, then we're golden.

I wonder if anything grows wild around here. Have you smelled tomato plants? I've come across a few wild onion.

Ned might be good for recipes, too. I know he's good in the kitchen. Better than me, anyway.

[She tried to think back.] I haven't really been looking for anything other than prey animals, so I don't know. But I'll keep a... nose out for it.

I should get to know him better. I've only talked to him a couple times. Once, I wasn't very polite. We were planting the garden.

[Around the full moon. She hopes having Derek around solves that.]

Pretty much anything and everything would be a good idea. I'm going to go through the library and see if the seaweed is edible. It's cold for clams yet, but I'm hoping.

He's a nice guy. A little skittish, but still really nice.

[She wasn't going to go into Ned's particulars; he was more than capable of telling who he wanted to be told, but he did deserve to have more friends.]

I thought most seaweed was edible. It's not always great tasting, but I didn't think it was toxic?

[Not that she'd had to live off it before. She'd been inland more, not having to rely on sea fare as much.]

He seems to be.

[Brigid remembers watching him resurrect the girl. Poor guy. She frowns, looking down at the docks.]

Most of it is? I think? But I'm pretty sure there's a few toxic varieties. Not sure how to tell the difference though. Hence, research.

It would just be our luck that the toxic kinds wash up here.

[Because why make anything easy for them, right? She was already without all the really good stuff that came from living in civilization. Why not make it completely impossible to survive?]

It would.

[Brigid normally isn't so cynical, but really, their luck isn't holding out well.]

We'll be okay though. You, me and Derek can smell out things. I don't think St. Raphael and the others will let us willfully kill ourselves. But I doubt they'll stop us from being stupid.

I know Balthazar wouldn't let me do something that'd be bad for me. Other than, you know, a little bit of drinking or mooning. He seems to be a bit more cheeky than he looks. I can ask him if he knows anything about seaweed and its edibility.

[Brigid purses her lips together. She doesn't like it.]

I'd rather leave that as a last resort for myself. I know it doesn't bother you, but for me to simply ask Angels if they can just tell me things when I can figure them out for myself feels... wrong. Like, you're depending on their power and not on your own wits and smarts.

[She's not explaining this well.]

I know you don't see it that way. It just... makes me uncomfortable.

[Balthazar doesn't seem like some all knowing being to her. He's a somewhat cheeky guy who seems somewhat hedonistic, if anything. She wouldn't think anything of it to ask him about what might or might not be toxic, just like she wouldn't hesitate to ask a native to any new area that she might visit what indigenous things to stay away from. It seemed logical to her to ask Balthy since he was older than dirt and would probably know better. And it would certainly be easier than trial and error, especially if there were errors.]

I can keep you out of it if you want, but I don't see why I shouldn't ask him if he knows. It's not like I'm asking him to magic us up some cheesecake.

... You had to mention cheesecake. I'd give my left arm for some. We need more sweets around here.

[It's a poor attempt to steer clear of the issue that they are never going to agree upon. Brigid understands that and accepts it. She'd rather keep Riley as a friend.]

Balthazar bemoans the lack of cheesecake daily. I pretty much agree with him. Cheesecake or chocolate or... god, anything, really.

[Riley would do her best to respect Brigid's views on the angels, but she wasn't going to start thinking differently of her friend or treat him like something venerable. Especially not when he didn't act like one.]
