Annie Edison | Video | 001
[The video swings wildly up and down. Have some sky. Now some ballet flats. A flash of plaid and then sky again.]
Guys?
[The video stills as Annie peers at the device on her wrist.]
Is this an Inspector Space Time thing? Remember what I said about warning me when we were pretending outside of the Dreamatorium? I need advance notice. I have a test, I can't... [She rolls her eyes, realizing that if they've gone to this much trouble, it's inescapable.]
[She sighs, pursing her lips before taking a deep breath and talking animatedly, her eyes wide.]
Oi, Goven'r, this is Constable Geneva on Cape Kore requiring immediate extraction. Blimey, there are blorgons everywhere! [She glances around, her face falling momentarily.] And a test worth 25% of my grade on the morn! Hurry, Inspector! Constable Reggie!
[She pauses, furrowing her brow.] Anyone?

No!
No, it is so much worse! We've been kidnapped. And the Dean doesn't arrive, even if you say his name in front of a mirror three times while turning around.
[Er...]
Not that I tried it.

[Annie's mouth falls open.]
Kidnapped? What do you mean we've been kidnapped? Where are we? Where are you? Have you contacted the authorities? How did we even get here?
[She pauses, her eyes narrowing.]
Wait a minute. Are you... [She lowers her voice.] High? [She blinks, looking confused.] Am I?
[That was possible, wasn't it? A contact high? Had she eaten any of Britta's baked goods? No. She was sure of it. Not since those terrible cookies that one time. And those hadn't even had pot in them, just too much baking soda.]
no subject
I mean, I don't think so. Someone mentioned a gas, but- [Britta shakes her hand and waves her arms. Enough of such thoughts! They're for squares!] But no, we aren't high, because trips are almost never this boring. Trust me, I'd know.
[Probably not the best thing to say to prove her case.]
We got kidnapped, Annie. Troy got kidnapped, too!

This isn't an Inspector Space Time thing, and you aren't in a Dreamatorium. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. My name's Bruce Banner.
no subject
Um, hi, Bruce.
[Her voice is high and maybe a little squeaky.]
My name's not actually Geneva. And I'm not actually a constable. I just... [Nope. Not making it worse.] It's a long story.
[She tilts her head to the side.]
Where am I?

What she lacks in generally accepted 'breaking news gently' skills she makes up for in enthusiasm though, so when she responds it's all cheer. There's a lot of words, very quickly, and a grin to accompany them. ]
Okay, first off - sweet British accent. I don't know what blorgons are, but they sound cool. Second, you've been kidnapped away to a little town and it's called Cape Kore, but your wrist thingy should have told you that by now. Third, there's no tv, no tech, no nothing interesting, so I hope you like board games else this place is duller than watching paint dry. Except for the bit where everyone went crazy but that was fine after a while so you don't even have to worry about it. I'm Laura, welcome and stuff!
[ A pause, and then: ]
Oh and the food is running out. I think that's it!
You're the second person to tell me I've been kidnapped. That doesn't make any sense. I don't have any money and me and my mother aren't exactly on good terms. Even if she had the money to pay a ransom, I don't know if she would... [Pause.]
What do you mean the food is running out?
[ Cheer up Annie, it's not the worst thing that could happen, right? Laura is practising the attitude of glass half-full, and determined to drag everyone along for the ride it seems. ]
Well, it's not like it's replacing itself, is it? So there's cans and stuff, but nothing lasts forever. We can't get out, so I don't know how we'll get more. [ And on that grim note of implied futures of starving to death, she throws in another bright smile. ] But you're not dead! We're pretty sure...
[ Someone seriously needs to ban her from greeting the new people. ]

I, um, no... No thank you.
[Some more explanation is probably necessary. Just her luck this went into some kind of broadcast. She can't tell if he's making fun of her or playing along. It seems like the latter. At least he sounds earnest.]
I probably shouldn't say.
[At least she sounds a little apologetic.]

Sorry, but you took a wrong turn at the Twilight Zone. The nerd convention's actually in a place called San Diego. California? Have you heard of that? Or has it already been obliterated by the Borg in whatever Stardate you actually come from?
no subject
I've heard of it.
[It's said instantly and defensively and it's only a second later that she realizes that wasn't actually the point.]
Who are you?
[Anyway.]
no subject
[ He gives her a warm smile, like he wasn't just mocking her a second ago. ]
I'd say pleased to meet you, but the circumstances are pretty shitty and I'm not pleased that more people are getting drawn into this mess. You've been better off in San Diego. Trust me.

Annie, did you say Blorgons? Like they're actually here? Because I've seen enough crazy stuff here to believe it, and you're really bad at pretending so I can't really tell if that's what you're doing or not.
[The joy at seeing a familiar face is instantly overruled by his ridiculousness and insult.]
What? No! I was just.... [She stops and huffs, crossing her arms.] If I was so bad at pretending, wouldn't you be able to tell when I wasn't? The fact that you're not sure at all means that I must be good.
[Everyone's a critic.]
Re: [video]
[Where did the term 'cardinal sin' even come from anyway? What exactly did those birds do that was so bad people had to start naming really bad things after them? Troy needs a minute to think about this.]

[Maybe it was a reference to a television show? But he often knew about pop culture.]

He's an Inspector... of time and space. [She straightens up a little.] It's a British TV show. I thought my friends were... [And how do you explain that?]
It was a joke.
[Nothing to see here.}
