I've been here for fourteen days. I'm sure that a lot of you have been here for longer. I'm also certain that this might not matter with what's going on now but you might be surprised. I know that with what's going on I'd like to not think about it for at least a few hours. Right now I'd rather be shopping, or having lunch with my friend.

[ Even reading something, or being in school. Shocking, she knows ]

What would you rather do? Or what do you miss doing.

[ Maybe she's going somewhere with this ]

[After the rough introduction to the town, Lara has been laid up in the clinic for a day. Wounds had shown beginning signs of infection and Lara didn't want to chance it so - a mini-vacation.

She recognizes Lydia's voice though and is bored enough to respond.]

I miss school.

[University was so wonderful compared to the shitstorm that is her life now.]

[It's grim but there's some fondness there. She was going to start grad school shortly after the trip to Hell Yamatai, but that's been...postponed indefinitely.]

My frien - Sam would always make sure I was socialized.

[By 'socialized' we mean way too much clubbing.]

I miss having a bigger selection of books. And having decent restaurants to go to.

The library has a selection, but it's minimal. Eventually, we'll all run out of things to read.

I mean I miss my computer. I'd rather be doing just about anything else that isn't here but the thing I miss is that.

It has a lot of options. [ Games. Google. Books. Videos. Etc etc ] I suppose computers go with a lot of things that could be missed, or at least recent technology.

Kind of weird trying to deal with a world that's somehow forgotten about the whole media age.

[She leans in, almost eagerly.] About twice what you've been. I think I'd rather be back at work; I was on my way to a gig when I was brought here.

That could be useful. [ She's just commenting, not asking. BUT FOR THE FUTURE ] What sort of magic?

I suppose it could. [By which she means that yes, yes it could. That's as detailed as she'll be about it, however.] I dabble in most kinds, aside from small scale. I'm the second fastest escape artist in the multiverse, next to Mister Miracle.

[Now that she's been given the opportunity to think about it? Leisure-time kind of seems like a far-off dream. The hunter lifestyle doesn't exactly come with a hell of a lot of downtime, and even before she'd started hunting, she'd spent most of her time working at the roadhouse, keeping the family business afloat.]

Kind of miss playing poker with the guys that used to come into the roadhouse. They were never very good.

[She misses their money, mostly.]

It made up for them being lousy tippers.

Not that it makes up for it but that could be done here. [ Does anyone have cards? Or paper? ]

If we were really desperate, we could probably make cards, given we can find the materials for something. If my mom can put the bar back together, we can scrape together a deck of cards.

Promise, if we play, I won't take people for all they're worth this time around.

[Not that there's much in the way of currency here to begin with. It would be a pretty vain attempt if she bothered with it. Besides, there was a big difference between playing with fellow captives for fun and playing with the hunters who thought it was a great idea to underestimate her.]

Paper would probably make a pretty crappy substitute, but it could do. [ And pause. A small frown before a look of intrigue - or a sound of one ] Your mom has a bar?

Crappy, sure, but that's kind of the standard for most things here, isn't it?

Yep. Working on it, anyway. She got the still up and running a couple of weeks ago, so that's some pretty decent progress. The whole place'll be up and running eventually.
